Tea Box

Hello Friends! Whoops, yesterday totally got away from me. How has everybody’s week been? Mine has gotten of to a great start. I have been eating well and worked out everyday! That is such an accomplishment for me after not doing much at all and stuffing anything in my mouth that caught my eye.

I have done some cleaning in a couple of the closets, I haven’t finished the closet in the spare room but I took some things out that didn’t need to be in there, which will give me room for other things.

Jules, We love cookies here! We used to make some every weekend but then we kind of got away from it. I am happy to spread the cookie love around. I am glad you are want to try the recipes. I look forward to hearing what you think of them. I am not sure I could say which one I like better. They are so different from each other. I have everything to make pizza at home too but I was feeling last weekend. The dough I got at the store is very good, made fresh everyday. I have a waffle maker as well, just a cheap one from Aldi’s. It works well for the few times we make waffles. Maybe I will get some waffle inspiration from you πŸ˜‰

I haven’t been reading Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest but as I mentioned a couple posts ago I went to the library to return books that Little Man had checked out and the library’s powers took over my mind and made me check out two books. Ok, maybe I just can’t stop myself from looking at the books on the shelf.Β  So here is what spoke to me this time.

DSC01209

The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher by Hilary Mantel is a collection of short stories. I have only been reading short stories since last year and this is my third book of short stories. I have read a few of them and they are different than other short stories I have read. A couple of them I really enjoyed and a couple of others I didn’t quite get. I am still looking forward to the other stories.

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley is the second book.Β  I got this book because in the new book section there was the seventh book in this series, As Chimney Sweepers come to Dust, and it sounded really good but I always have to start a series from the beginning. It’s about a young girl named Flavia de Luce, who is an aspiring chemist, and comes across the body of a man and is intrigued and investigates. I hope it is as good as it sounds, especially since I want to read the seventh book.

In sewing news, I did finish my box that I was making with these squares

Here it is filled up with tea πŸ™‚

Here is closed and some of the sides and bottom

DSC01208 DSC01207 DSC01206 DSC01205

It came out a lot better than I thought it was going to. I am really happy with it. It’s the perfect addition to my other tea boxes.

I am off to enjoy a little dessert and tea before bedtime. Enjoy your day/night my friends!

Lemon Cookies

Hello Friends,

Hi! How are you doing? I am doing well. The weekend has been very relaxing and enjoyable. Yesterday Little Man had his first basketball game. It was so fun and funny watching the kids play basketball. They are fourth and fifth graders and they just go for it. Sometimes they are all over the place and the throws can be kind of crazy. Little Man did really good though and one of his shots was super close. Most importantly he had fun.

Once we got home we had lunch and then it was time to get on the couch for the National Readathon Day that I told you about in the last post. Did any of you participate? Little Man read to me for half an hour and then I read to him for half an hour. Then we made our cookies followed by an hour of reading to ourselves.

The cookies we made are Lemon Sugar Cookies. Mmmm the lemon flavor is wonderful and it is one of Little Man’s favorite. We followed the recipe as written except that we did not roll them in sugar before baking. Also I did not have large lemons so i zested four smaller lemons.

DSC01187

Here are all the ingredients. I didn’t use the lemons pictured here because i started zesting one and it just didn’t smell lemon-y to me. My mom gave them to me and sad they were Meyer lemons, which are supposed to be the best lemons. I have bought them at the store and they smelled better then the ones she gave me. SoIi just used regular lemons.

We poured and mixed the dry ingredients.

DSC01188 DSC01190

Mixed the wet ingredients.

DSC01191

Then mixed the dry and wet together. And made cookie balls. πŸ™‚

DSC01192 DSC01193

Baked them for about 10 minutes and after 2 minutes of cooling put them on the cooling racks.

DSC01195

They came out beautifully and taste so lemon-y and delicious! I tried squishing a bit to many on a cookie sheet so some of them ending up sticking together, which is why some looked like they have a flat edge, I had to do some surgery to separate them πŸ™‚ My husband tried to say that those just counted as one cookie and didn’t need to be cut apart. We will be making these again!

After reading for an hour, I went into the craft room and managed to sew another one of my squares on that I mentioned on Friday. I also sewed the last and first square together to form the main body of the box. I still have to sew on the bottom and then the lid. Maybe I will try to work on it after I am done posting this.

Then we had homemade pizza. I was going to make my own dough but then I got lazy so when we were at the market store, they have fresh pizza dough you can buy. It;s really good so I just picked up some of that. We each had our own mini pizza. I made mine a veggie pizza. It has broccoli, red onion, red pepper, and mild peppers.

DSC01196Well i have laundry calling me from the dryer so I will end here.Tomorrow we are all back to school and work. I don’t have any special plans for the week. I forgot to take pictures of the books that I told you the library made me get. So I will share those with you in my next post. I am thinking that will be on Tuesday.

So I wish you a wonderful a week!

Well…

Well, I had all these plans to sit down and write a post today and again the day has gotten away from me! I had the day off of work and got a lot of stuff done so I can’t be too disappointed.

Jules you asked about the oatmeal cookie recipe i had in my last post. I got it from from Here. I followed the recipe as written except that i didn’t have any molasses, so i left that out and they were some of the best i have made!

So i will be back tomorrow for sure!! I have some fabric to show you that i am playing with and here is a sneak peak at the broccoli soup i made today for my lunch and i will be sharing that with you as well.

DSC01183

Have a wonderful day Friends!

Slow

Hello Friends! How is everybody doing? Work and School started back up for Little Man and I last week, so we have been getting back into routine and I have been a bit lazy in the evenings. We have had bitter cold and it seemed like everyday there was a little bit of the white stuff falling from the sky.

Last post I talked about getting my sewing table cleaned and i was successful. Less so when it came to pulling out some fabric and cutting it up, maybe this weekend. I have so much fabric and a lot of it i bought because i just like the pattern, so I want to do either strips or squares and make a quilt, something to use my stash up. It’s all fabric that i say “oh but it’s so pretty i have to save it.” This way all my “so pretties” can be in one place and treasured!

I also mentioned Little Man’s new game Forbidden Island. We have played a couple more times and still have not won!! The island beat us every time.

IMG_2069

I think Little Man is starting to get a little frustrated. We have been halfway there a couple of times and he gets his hopes up and then an important piece of the island goes under water and the game ends. I have looked online to see if we are doing something wrong and it doesn’t seem like we are but some comments are about how easy the game is or how quick to beat and all i can think is “What are we doing wrong?” I am not giving up yet though! Little Man does enjoy playing it though so i know we will get there eventually.

I have been using my duct tape wallet that I mentioned in the last post and I love it! I don’t normally carry such a small wallet except for work because i don’t like to leave stuff like that in my locker so i just have a small wallet in my pants with the important stuff i need. My duct tape wallet is thin and much more fun than the boring brown one i was using!

I finished my P.D. James book that I was reading for the Bringing up Burns Book Challenge. Now I am on number two: A book that was made into a movie.Β  I chose Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larrson.

IMG_2075

It is the third book in a series, it started with Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I am not sure an English version of the third book was ever made but i know they made a Swedish film. I read the first two books a couple of years ago right after the other and then i needed a break from Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. If you have not read them, they are great books and I feel like they move right along and are suspenseful. They do touch on some topics that some people might not want to read about and can be quite graphic.

In the past week I finished the puzzle that I you can see started in the last photo. It was a fun one and i love these Sheep World Characters!! I have only seen them in Germany.

IMG_2081Today I made some Oatmeal Raisin cookies. Half of them are a gift for a friend because it is their favorite cookie and the other half are for us to enjoy. I forgot how much i love homemade Oatmeal Raisin cookies. It has been years since I made some.Β  I had already started when i thought, oh I should share with you guys. I soaked my raisins in warm water while I got the dough together.

IMG_2092

Here is the butter, sugar and eggs mixed up and i added the vanilla:

IMG_2089Then i put the flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon in a bowl.

IMG_2090I mixed the wet ingredients with the dry and added the oatmeal and the raisins to be mixed in.

IMG_2093That part was a bit tough. The dough is very thick and sticky.

IMG_2095Then i put my dough in the fridge for about a half an hour so the cookies wouldn’t spread quite so much. Rolled them into balls.

IMG_2096And baked them up for 11 minutes and then let them sit on the cookie sheet for 5 minutes before putting them on a cooling rack.

IMG_2097Yummy!!!! I will be enjoying a couple with my bedtime tea!

I hope you all have a wonderful night or day depending on where you are! I will be back soon! No more long absences like this if i can help it.

A Few Things

Hello Friends! It is a cold, rainy and dreary day. I have been doing some cleaning and organizing in the crafty room. Last post I said that I wanted to do some more sewing this year. Well this is a big part of the problem:

IMG_2044

I have managed to clear off most of the items and pretty soon I will have a clear table!! That will definitely help with being able to sew πŸ˜‰

Yesterday Little Man and I had a fun day. We went for a walk after lunch and then played some games. I got Ticket to Ride for Christmas and he got Forbidden Island. So we decided to try them out. They are both really fun games that require some thinking and planning. Forbidden Island is a teamwork game and we played twice yesterday and were not able to win the game so we are determined to try to beat it sometime this weekend. Little Man is feeling a bit under the weather today so he has just been resting but maybe later this evening or tomorrow.

After dinner we made duct tape wallets. It was a bit tricky and sticky πŸ˜‰ and took longer than I thought it would but we still had fun and are both very happy with how they turned out. I used a couple different tutorials online because of how Little Man wanted his wallet to look and one had some easier steps than the other one.

Here we are making our duct tape sheets.

IMG_2045 IMG_2046

IMG_2047

Then we cut it down to size and since we made our duct tape sheets big enough we had enough to make the pockets, which Little Man was happy about. He was struggling a bit with the sticky and making his sheet.

Here we are setting up the pockets and I.D. section to be taped.

IMG_2054

Here they are all done!

IMG_2057 IMG_2058 IMG_2059

We are super happy with how they turned out, especially for our first time. There are little things that could be better, wrinkles and some crooked tape but overall I think they turned out great. I am super proud of how Little Man’s turned out and he did most of it himself and barely wanted my help. It is a bit sticky but I see us making these again.

On Instagram the other day I came across a reading challenge that is on Bringing Up Burns. It’s called 26 Books to read in 2015. There are 26 prompts that you follow. You don’t have to do them in order and I am not sure if I will or not. But to start I am doing the first one.Β  It is A book you own and haven’t read. I am not lacking in choice.

IMG_2062

Some are newer and some have been around for a while. I wanted to make sure I picked one that has been sitting around for a while.

IMG_2063

I picked this one up at a library used book sale. I have never read P.D. James before but I have heard good things and I really enjoy mysteries.

So after making donuts this morning for breakfast as requested by Little Man. I go the recipe from here.

IMG_2060IMG_2061

I sat down at the table and enjoyed a couple of chapters and a couple donuts. They are really yummy. I didn’t have buttermilk on hand, so I just used regular milk and they came out fine.

IMG_2064

Well dinner is almost done so I hope you all have a cozy weekend.

Spoiled by a Friend

Hello Friends! How are you? Things are going well over here! Christmas Vacation has started for Little Man and I. Today we went and took care of the grocery shopping for our Christmas meal and Christmas cookies that I am going to be making tomorrow. I didn’t make cookies last year so it has been two years since I made cookies and I am feeling a bit nervous about it! Kinda silly, but hopefully they all turn out well. I will be making four different cookies. Three are ones that my grandma makes for Christmas and one is from a magazine that I cut out a few years ago and really like. But I will show them off tomorrow.

We had a really nice weekend. Little Man is in cub scouts and they were doing a special nights with discounted tickets for the hockey team in our area. So on Friday we went to the hockey game.

IMG_1945

It was a lot of fun, I am not really a sports fan of any kind, but even I got into it. Our team is in red and the white shirts was a team from New York. Little Man really enjoyed it too, it was his first time. The scouts all got a patch, water bottle, hockey puck and a nice backpack at the game. The first 5000 people got a free Christmas-y T-shirt, and we were three of those lucky 5000. Little Man even got a practice puck after the game from one of the attendants.

I finally finished my tree over the weekend.

IMG_1988

Better late than never!

Little Man went off to spend the night at his aunts on Saturday so I wrapped his presents while he was gone.Β  Then we had a nice dinner with my father-in-law and his fiancee and watched a movie at their house. By Sunday my cold had hit me full force so Hubby and I did nothing. It was so nice. We watched the last Inspector George Gently available on Netflix and then some Wallander.

Another big highlight of the weekend happened on Saturday.Β  I got a package from my friend Jule. Oh what a package it was!!

IMG_1970

I already started opening it when i remembered I must take pictures. And I apologize, some of the pics are a bit blurry and I didn’t realize until I loaded them unto the computer today.

IMG_1971

πŸ˜€ she made me an advent calendar!! How totally sweet and awesome is that!!

IMG_1972

Inside the binder were some stars.

IMG_1973

I have already stuck them in my Christmas tree.

IMG_1989

There were all kinds of goodies. You will notice a lot of Diddl stuff. That was part of what started this whole swap between her and I. She had some stuff she was getting rid of and I am a huge fan and was happy to take it off her hands to add to my collection.

IMG_1974 IMG_1975

IMG_1984

There were some other goodies in my package too!

IMG_1976 IMG_1977

In the Anna magazine there is a pattern for some fox gloves and Jules bought me some yarn to make them.

IMG_1979

Aren’t they cute! I am really looking forward to casting them on.

There were some other magazines.

IMG_1980

I have already looked at the Nooz one. It’s a super cute little magazine!! Once the Christmas cookies are all eaten up I am going to make the button cookies that are on the cover of it. There were some other things in there I want to make as well. Like I said, super cute magazine! I am looking forward to sitting down and enjoying the others.

One more thing before we get to the Advent calendar.

IMG_1981 IMG_1982

It’s a diary. It’s one of those that has more that one year in it. So this one is a three year one and you write just a little highlight of your day. And it even has the weather and little faces. So cool! I have seen them around here but the are smaller and don’t have those little extras. I am really looking to starting this in the new year.

Next up is the biggie! The Advent Calendar!!

IMG_1983IMG_1985

So I went back and forth a lot on how I was going to open up my little presents. For one second i did consider opening them all up to the 20th but then I knew I didn’t want to do that. So then I thought about just starting from day one and going day by day from there but I was not patient enough for that. So I figured out how many presents I could open a day until Christmas. It came out to four a day and then on Christmas day I will open five.

Here are the four I opened on Saturday.

IMG_1987

And here are Sunday and today.

IMG_1990

Wow!! What great stuff!! Little Man already has plans for us to play the memory game. I can’t wait to open my other little presents!

Thank you so much Jules! Your package made my day! I never expected so much. I appreciate all the time and thought you put into putting this package together for me!

Another Week Flown by!!

Hello Friends! How are you all? I am doing good. Keeping busy around the house, with work and trying to get ready for Christmas. I can’t believe it will be here next week! December has flown by! I am almost done with my shopping, what about you? Decorating the house is like half done, I know…I am slacking! But I did remember my favorite thing for the season.

IMG_1928

My Advent candles. I took this picture this past Saturday so it still only has two candles lit. I am always scrambling days before or on the day of to find the right candles but I always make sure it is set up and ready. I love sitting at the table with my candles lit and just the whole set up. It’s a comforting feeling. Is there anything about this time that you really look forward to?

Last Saturday we also went to our library because they had an activity for kids to decorate gingerbread houses. Little Man had fun working on his and coming up with ideas. I helped a bit with the fence but other than that he pretty much did it on his own.

IMG_1924

I also had my work Christmas party Saturday Evening. It didn’t go quite as planned. Both of our bosses called a friend I work with and said they were sick and couldn’t make it, just a couple of hours before it started. They had all the food and supplies for the party so my friend scrambled to get some snacks and salad stuff. My one boss ordered some pizza to be delivered to the hall where we had the party but he only ordered seven pizzas for almost 50 people, so she had to order more. Apart from that it was nice to hang out with some of the ladies outside of work. Have any of you had any Christmas parties already?

Yesterday my mom gave me a bunch of oranges so I decided to make a clove orange today while I was working on dinner.

IMG_1936

I forgot to get a picture of it done. I didn’t do a special pattern I just covered it all over with cloves. I will get a picture of it hanging up and all done. My mom used to have one hanging in our hallway for a long time and it smelled so good and lasted a really long time. I hope mine does too.

Tomorrow I am planning on finishing my tree. It has lights and a few ornaments that I have bought and that my grandma sent me. So hopefully I am successful!

I will be back soon, really I will! πŸ™‚

Slow Week

Hi Friends! How was everyone’s week? Mine was a bit slow. I haven’t worked on any of my crafts or done anything special in the kitchen. It really was kind of a lame week. My husband had to take his car into the shop so for a few days I did some walking to work and getting my son to school. I forgot how much I enjoy a good walk in cool weather. It’s a whole different experience. The smells and sounds. There was a tree with a ton of acorns and three squirrels running around playing with each other and going nuts by it and it was so fun to watch.

I got some bulbs a couple weeks ago and put them in some water right away and they have grown much faster than i expected them to! It has been so fun to see them changing every day. Here are my paperwhites yesterday:

IMG_1909

Today even more have opened up. When they all open I will have to share that with you guys. So much easier than trying to grow plants outside or in a pot, I don’t have much luck with that.

We were pretty lazy Saturday morning and afternoon. Hubby and I watched a show we really enjoy called George Gently. Then in the evening we had a family Christmas party and Santa came to see the kids.

IMG_1911

I think Little Man is almost as big as Santa πŸ™‚

On Sunday we went to the art museum for boy scouts, it was one of the things they had to do to earn the Art pin. I was reallyΒ  excited to go because I had heard from a friend that they had some art from Monet there! We walked around for quite a bit before we finally found it. And it was just One. Don’t get me wrong it was beautiful but I was hoping for more. I love Monet, so I am Monet greedy I guess ;).Β  I shouldn’t complain I was able to see several of his pieces when we went to Chicago several years ago. Anyway here is the masterpiece.

IMG_1915

I took a couple up close shots and i don’t think the guard that was in the room liked it because she ended up moving from the back of the room to right in the line of sight of what I was doing. It was worth it.

IMG_1919

IMG_1918

I have always appreciated and admired how some blotches of paint up close can be so beautiful from far away.

After that we went to a craft fair that was packed!! Great for all the people that had tables there and were trying to sell things but very hard to walk through. I didn’t get any pictures, all you would have seen was a whole bunch of bodies crushing around tables.

Then we came home and played a game together

IMG_1920

It’s called Wildcraft, my father-in-laws fiancee let us borrow it. You are basically a team and you start at grandma’s house have to make it to the center of the board, which is the huckleberry patch, and back to her house by nightfall with two buckets of berried per person. Along the way though you land on trouble squares and you suffer from different things, like a wasp sting, hunger, sore muscles and other health related things. But you have and also collect plant cards on your way and these plants can heal you from whatever trouble you got which is the main purpose of the game. To help teach kids natural herbs and plants. Little Man and I have played it several times since we got it just after Thanksgiving.

I am hoping to get my decorations out this week and maybe do some cross stitching. I am still reading Edge of Eternity and it is due back to the library tomorrow…I still have about 200 pages to go. Back to reading I go!!

Cross Stitch and Liebster Award

Hello Friends!! I am so sorry for my disappearance. It was not planned. How are you all doing? I am doing good. Last week was Thanksgiving so I had some time off. I finished up putting some packages together and did some reading and spending time with my husband.

A couple of weeks ago when I was at the bookstore they had the new Cross Stitcher magazine. It is a British one and is a bit pricey but I really like it and the patterns, so every now and then I treat myself to the latest issue.

IMG_1859

This issue came with a cute extra:

IMG_1860

It comes with enough fabric to make two heart ornaments and so I decided to make one for my grandma’s Christmas package. Like me, she likes owls so I chose that design. The fabric it comes with to cross stitch is very stiff, I have never worked with something like that before. You didn’t need to use a hoop to hold your fabric like you need with most aida or linen fabrics but when it came to sewing the back and the front together and then turning it right side out, it was pretty difficult but I managed to with a lot of tugging and poking and pushing and pulling. πŸ™‚

IMG_1894

Here it is all finished! Not the best picture but I took it the night I was packing up the package. I am pretty happy with how it turned out. The cross stitching looks good I just wish the heart looked a little better. I have started the second heart so depending how much I work on it maybe by the weekend I will have something to show. I need to start working on my Christmas cards and some other holiday stuff, time is flying by!

I did manage to get my son’s Advent calendar done in time though, I have something for everyday which is quite an achievement because I usually have the first couple weeks filled and then I am trying to get things to fill it with as the month goes on.

IMG_1901

I use a curtain rod to hang it in his window. I made it four or five years ago. It is still one of the things I am most proud of. You can’t see them very well, I was trying to get a shot of all 24. Each stocking is lined with red fabric and has a red ribbon to hang by. Then I used some red glittery felt and cut out star shapes and embroidered the numbers on them in a shiny silver embroidery thread, which was a pain to work with.Β  But I got there in the end and he looks forward to it every year.

Last but not least my friend Joanna picked me for the Liebster Award. Thank you!

liebster-award

My questions:
1. Are you social? (FB, Instagram, Twitter, ect?)

I am on Facebook and Instagram but I mainly go on there to see what other people are up to and sharing, I don’t post very much.

2. What colours are your favourite (on clothes and around you)?

Oh, I love the morning pink and purple you might catch in the morning when the sun is rising.Purple is also one of my favorite colors for everything.Β  Burgundy is not really a favorite color of mine but I know that it looks good on me. I like gray for sweaters or shirts. I really like bright colors but not all of them suit me so I try to have them around me in my bed sheets or pillows or when I make bags or something myself. and I can get away with wearing bright colors in my socks because I think socks can be fun and don’t always have to match what you are wearing.Β  A lot of the pictures I have hanging have bright colors.

3. Do you sleep in socks or never ever?

I am one of those people who as soon as colder weather hits I am always wearing socks!! But in the summer I do not sleep in socks.
4. What would you like to learn in the future?

I would really like to learn French. And I would like to learn to quilt, I have a basic understanding of course but to do it properly. Really, sewing better would be a plus, I do a lot of straight sewing and easy projects but to make myself a shirt, skirt or even a dress would be nice.

5. Coffee or tea? Tea but on the weekends I do enjoy a nice cup of coffee.
6. Do you have a pet? What is it? Maybe you would like to have one?

Its been almost two years since we have been without a pet. We used to have cats. I would like to have a cat again and we have talked about it but I think maybe we have waited to long and now I have gotten used to not having to deal with a litter box and the cat hair everywhere. But then when I go to friends that have cats I can’t get enough of them. It’s a big decision and I want it to be the right one and the right time.
7. If you could choose any epoch and place to live, when and where would it be?

This is a tough one but I think In the renaissance period in Europe… specifically probably France. I think I need to travel with Doctor Who so I can just have a taste of it all, there are so many things that I think would be awesome to experience.
8. When did you start writing your blog? Do you plan to ever stop writing?

Well this is my third reincarnation of having a blog, so I have been doing this on and off for several years. I would like to think that I am not going to stop writing because I do enjoy it but I have never been a great writer and it has been kind of easy for me in the past to stop writing. I am also still hesitant sometimes about what i put out there and sometimes I think something is kind of sill to write about. So i still struggle a lot.
9. What is the most handy tool you are lost without?

Can a handkerchief be considered a tool? makes a great napkin, tissue and towel πŸ™‚ My key chain nail clippers would probably be one.
10. What are your three favourite dishes from three different world cuisines?

Puerto Rican Mofungo, filled with chicken and no broth on the outside i don’t like when things get soggy and mushy.

German Wiener Schnitzel with Potato Salad.

Pad Thai, I realize that the Pad Thai that I get around here might not be like the real Pad Thai but it is my fave Thai dish.

And Middle Eastern Tabbouleh salad and Falafel. Yum, thinking about all this food makes me want it all!
11. Glass half way full or half way empty? Way Full!!

I am going to nominate

The Marsh

Hi Friends! How are you? I am snuggled up on the couch with Little Man away from the cold that is hovering outside my front door. We got some snow today. Yuck, but I am thankful it was only a little bit. Some people have been hit really hard.

IMG_1854

It is pretty, I just don’t like driving in it and because it was so cold the roads were quite slick.

So on Friday I told you we were hoping to go to the Marsh over the weekend and we did! We layered and bundled ourselves up and went over to the marsh for a wonderful walk. I could have stayed there all day but the men aren’t quite as keen as i am to be doing all that walking in the cold but I took some pictures to share our walk with you.

IMG_1799

This is when we first got there. Then we started walking on our favorite trail but Little Man wanted to do it in reverse this time.

IMG_1800 IMG_1801 IMG_1803 IMG_1807

IMG_1808

You can see that the water was completely frozen in places and then there was a section where the water started flowing over the ice.

IMG_1811

This is a part of the marsh that is normally filled with water but you can see there isn’t much in there right now. I love seeing the changes from season to season.

Love that pop of red within all that brown. It isn’t as bright in the picture as it was there.

Me all bundled up in my handknits!! That the Gap-tastic cowl and the Wurm hat. I had warmed up a bit by then since we were further into our walk but before that I had my cowl wrapped around a third time and all you could see were my glasses.

Along the way we found that the beavers in the area had been busy!! They had chewed five trees and started a sixth one but didn’t it. then you could see the drag marks of the trees going down to the water. Little Man thought it was so neat and we both too some of the shavings that they left behind.

It was hard to get a picture of but here is where they have built their dam a little ways down from where the trees were taken.

Bubbles under the ice that Little and Big Man had to “free” with their sticks.

That was our walk, enjoyed very much by all.

By the road that leads to the marsh there is a sign for a farmers bakery in the area. it has been there forever but we never checked it out so today we thought we would be adventurous and see what it is all about. It turned out to be super cute little place that had some delightful looking pastries, donuts, pies and even fresh-baked bread. We got a loaf of rye bread and some sweet treats. Then I came home, made some coffee and enjoyed my treat with a book.

I borrowed the book from a friend, it’s Wild Tales by Graham Nash. It is his autobiography and when I read the back of it, it sounded really interesting. I am about four chapters in and while still interesting for me it has slowed down a bit so when I was at the library on Monday it was very easy for me to be tempted by a different book.

This is the third book in the Century Trilogy that started with the Fall of Giants by Ken Follett. This is the Edge of Eternity. It just came out last month I think so when I saw the library had it in I had to check it out. I really enjoyed the first two books, they are very hefty, both close to if not over 1000 pages long but they really pull you into the lives of the different families that you are following starting in the early 1900’s. Book three is starting in 1961 and with the American families it is about segregation and Communism in Cuba. The German families are dealing with the split between East and West Germany and where I am at the Russians have just put up the fence that divides Berlin. The Russians are dealing with JFK and playing nice or maybe not so nice and they have their own kind of revolution going on. We have only seen a little bit of the English family but they all have their struggles whether it is personal, professional or with the country they live in. I can’t wait to read more later tonight.

Hope you are all well. Tomorrow I am hoping to show you a couple upcoming crafts that I am planning on starting, not knitting but I must do something!! Have a great day!
