April 2009

I am still trying to figure out a potholder pattern for my swap.   I really liked this flower one  I came across online.  Whipped up the first one no problems. So of course I can whip up 4 more for the swap.  It wasn’t so.  No matter what I did I couldn’t get my front and back pieces to line up so I could crochet them together.  I think i crocheted with a tighter tension the second time around. But after all that messing around and trying to make it work i was sick of it so “back to the drawing board” as they say.

Pattern: A Flower

Made for: Me now :)

Hook: H/8

Notes: I had to make the back bigger to match my front but that was easy. I also added the flower in the middle but my mom gave me that idea. I really like this potholder so i am glad i got to keep it but not so glad that i have to find a different pattern for the swap. Who knew this could be so difficult?

On a more positive note, Check out my Rhododendron:

This is one of my favorite things about Spring.  Especially because those flowers are only there for a couple of weeks and then they are gone until the next Spring. Treasure the short Spring moments :)

  Happy Spring!!!

Finally! After some breaks and just not wanting to work on Gromit is completed!

Pattern: Gromit from British Woman’s Weekly-not sure what year i just have the pattern not the whole mag. Pattern by Alan Dart.

Dates: March 10-April 13, 2009

Made for: Babsi for Easter

Yarn: Bernat Super Value in Natural for body, head arms and legs,  Bernat Super Value in Walnut for ears and tail, Caron Simply Soft in Black for nose and the eyes are Bernat Satin i think

Needle: US 3/3.25 mm

Notes: Happily I was able to work everything but the arms in the round because  Gromit was a bit more tedious to assemble than Shaun was.

The pattern was very straight forward. I am not a big fan of how his feet were made and when it came to seaming his thumb i had some trouble.  My thumb looks a little smaller  than the picture and one of my pointer fingers is very pointy.  Gives Gromit some Character!

Big change was of course working things in the round and i made some small changes like instead of K2tog right at the start of the row i would knit 1 stitch and then do the K2tog.

I kept having to reposition the arm that is up- wasn’t happy with it and it wasn’t staying out like it should.  I redid the right leg twice also because i wasn’t happy with how it looked.  Left leg looked better and he was sitting better on his left side. Still not perfect but i was happy with it. There really is a lot of moving and adjusting until it is just perfect so make sure you set aside the time to do it right and not rush through. I think that helps.

All in all, I love him! He came out super cute and one day i hope to make one for myself but that day is far off.

And Since this was a Easter Gromit-he needed some ears!!

Last Week was busy, fun, sad and extra special for Little Man :)

We had a great time while Abuelo was here. It was cold and SNOWING the first couple days he was here. Poor Guy was freezing, he is used to his tropical weather not this cold stuff. It’s supposed to be Spring not winter!

We went to the museum

Little Man was the Wienie in the empty hot dog bun lol :)

The Petting Farm

And the Zoo on the last day. We were so lucky that it warmed up enough for us to go.

Everyone was sad when Abuelo had to go-Especially me.

But I had something extra special to get ready for on Saturday:

My Little Man turned 5!  I can’t believe how fast the years go by, makes a Mommy proud and a teeny bit sad.  He is super excited to be 5 and even gained some speed.

He is so cute with his new bike, stopping to check the air in his tires and gas stops :)

We had a nice relaxing Easter. Stayed in our Jammies, except for a short bike ride, small dinner, egg dyeing, playing with new toys and a egg hunt.

I hope everyone had a great weekend as well.

Come back Wednesday to see Gromit!!!!

Abuelo is here!!!, originally uploaded by Craftydiddl.

Little Man loves having his Abuelo (grandpa) here.
My dad is here from Puerto Rico until Friday so there will be some silence on here and my comments on other blogs-Be back Friday-looking forward to all you guys have done this week.

I am back with the healthy again :)   I had a terrible cold a week ago and spent the last few days catching up on everything that i fell behind on.  It never ceases to amaze me how much yo can fall behind on during a cold.

This Saturday is my mother-in-law’s birthday and i like to have him make his gifts rather than buy something.   Since we have been into the Shrinky Dinks lately he made some more charms for Gramma to have on a necklace.

Necklace for Gramma

I love his little pictures and i treasure the ones he has made for me. I know Grandma will treasure hers as well.

I have been working on Gromit almost every night for about an hour, enough time to get one of his bits done :)

We have legs, arms, feet, one completed ear, a partial ear and his neck.  I wasn’t able to work his arms in the round because of their construction but i have been able to do all the other parts in the round.  I only have the ear, tail, nose and eyes left so i am hoping to finish all his bits by tomorrow night.

I also started Steggie for Little Man-this is what i have of the back.

I decided to go with the biggest size because when I measured one of Little Man’s hoodies it measured at 30 inches across which was large in the pattern and that is his current size.  I want Steggie to last him a bit longer then just this season so Hopefully the bigger size won’t be too huge.  Even if it is we can roll up the sleeves right :)

Ta-daa i have an FO!  I joined a potholder swap and i wanted to kind play around and test out a pattern that i liked.

Pattern: Potholder from Kyuuto! Japanese Crafts Lacy Crochet

Dates:March 20-April 1, 2009

Yarn: J. P Coats Royale  Crochet Thread Size 3

Hook: 2.2 mm

Notes: Oh Man, this practice potholder took way longer than I planned.  I did the two circles and when i went to sandwich them together and do the edging one of my circles was missing a whole panel!!!! HOW DID THAT HAPPEN??  So i had to unravel almost all of it and redo the circle and since it was basically my third time making a circle i just wasn’t that into it anymore and took a few days break.   There area little mistakes all over the place-nothing noticeable unless you study it or if you looked at the pattern. The yellow edging has kind of a big mistake. I was supposed to do 7 treble crochets in a single crochet and I only did 6 and didnt realize my mistake until i was right at the end.  I was not doing it again.   Even with all my screw-ups it did come out really nice and i do like it but i don’t think this is the pattern i am going to use for the swap. lol

I checked out 200 crochet squares from the library and there are quite a few that look like they might be fun to do. Now the fun of picking the perfect square begins :)
