March 2009

Well okay maybe not but he is posted somewhere else then just on my blog and I think that’s pretty cool and so will he :)

Remember Muswell the Cat I made Little Man for Valentine’s-well the designer(!!!!!) of the pattern stopped by my blog and not only complimented my kitty, gave me the correction for the muzzle i was having trouble with but also asked to post Little Man’s picture with Muswell on her blog.  How cool is that.

So here he is.

Thanks so much Jennie for your help and making our day :)

I bought some Shrinky-Dinks quite awhile ago and only used them once and packed them away with all my other craft stash.  Yesterday I thought pulling them out would be something fun for Little Man and I to do.

We had to use Permanent Marker for the drawings so if you aren’t sure your little one can handle them then used colored pencils (leaves a residue after baking) or i have heard colored pens can work too with little residue.  I trust Little Man and he got most of it on his hands anyway only one little mark on the coffee table.

I knew I wanted to make a bracelet with my shrinky’s so i tried not to go too big.

Little Man also made me a few pictures that I put on a necklace, he wants a necklace now too.  I also think these could make great gifts for his grandma’s birthday that’s coming up and for his Aunt so if he likes the idea as well we will make some charms for them.

Little Man just went free and got to do whatever he wanted. Of course when he saw I was making charms he wanted to make charms as well and I helped make the holes until he was able to do it all by himself. (The ones with the names are mine but he wanted to keep them)

He loves them! This morning he even started drawing some more.

I will have to get more of this “magical paper” soon.

I am joining the Crocheted Potholder Swap if you would like to join in on the fun then you have until Saturday to join…Go on Join :)

Today was a beautiful day and Little Man even had the day off from school so we made the best of it!

First we went grocery shopping, Little Man would probably say that was the worst part of the day :)

After lunch we made pine cones again. Here is one of them:

Then we went to the park to slide

and swing.

Then we came home for a snack and we decided to make a picnic out of it.  Little Man loves picnics and has been wanting to have one for quite some time.

After our snack we washed Little Man’s wagon-it needed it.

While the sun was doing its job and drying the wagon we made the dough for our cookies.

After you wash a wagon you HAVE to go for a ride in it…

(He is in mid-song here)

A ride to another park.

Then we walked back home slowly enjoying the sun on our backs

After taking my mom to her Tango Class we stopped to get invites for Little Man’s b-day and look at yarn at Joann.

Yep, i got some yarn but it’s not for me-it’s for Steggie. I know i said i was gonna hold of on it but i think it will be a quick knit, he really wants it and Mommy is weak and can’t say no.  It’s Vanna’s Choice, one of the only yarns that had all the colors Little Man wanted.  The colors are a little different then in the pattern but not much.

After we got home it was almost bedtime but i quickly frosted the cookies so we could have one on the day they were meant for. My planning was a bit off with the cookies today but it was all worth it and we had a great day. I hope you all did too.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

The recipes for the cookies is here.  I made a small change, I left out the Almond extract and put in some lemon juice and lemon zest. I also added some lemon juice to the frosting.  Super Yummy-one of the best sugar cookies i have had so far.

A body and a head!!!

I like his head and he doesn’t even have eyes or anything yet but i can already see him slowly forming.  The pattern for Gromit is written to be knit flat and then seamed together but phooey on seaming!!! So i am going to try and knit as many of his pieces as i can in the round.

We are starting to have some signs of Spring here!! It has been a bit warmer and tomorrow even 60!! I have some of my tulips sprouting up in the front of the house and one lone one on the side of the house that is a bit taller since it gets more sun.  I am very excited, we have had such a cold winter this year so i am ready for the Sunshine!! (Yes, when it get too hot in the summer I will be back on here complaining it’s too hot and bring on the cold. lol I am a Spring and Fall girl all the way)

Happy Monday and hope things are warming up in your area as well!

Things are moving very slowly over here.  I have too many things going at once-i don’t know how other people do it and get stuff done :)

To keep from neglecting my poor blog i decided to update my progress on my Wip’s because there has been some.

First up is the Mystery Shawl i started the last week of June:

Poor thing still looks the same.

In October i started some Mystery socks from Through the Loops:

I really liked this pattern but i think i made them a tad to big and on one i seriously messed up something on the heel and i just wasn’t happy with them so…

Frogged.  I will be coming back to the pattern one day soon!

In January i realized everything i was working on was kind of complicated. So i decided to cast on for the Combo-T Corset by Annie Modesitt for some good quality travel and mindless knitting.  It has been perfect for that. The only time i work on it is when i take Little Man to his Karate and Fitness classes so not a lot is done but i am getting closer and closer to my 24 inches with every class.

To satisfy my need for a blanket of yarny goodness and because i have made no progress at all on my blanket of sock-yarn squares i thought i would try something quicker…Crochet

This is the Soft Wave pattern from Jan Eaton’s 200 Ripple Stitches.

My colors look a bit truer in the bottom picture but my yellow and turqouise  aren’t quite so loud.

I have a crochet curtain waiting for some curly strands and so it’s hanging patiently in the window like this

And to add to all the craziness i have started a new pattern…Yeah i know can you believe it but my mom requested Gromit for easter to keep her Shaun company and at the time i thought ”Oh no problem i will be all caught up on my backlog.”  I was wrong.

Help!

After Gromit there is going to be some serious WIP butt kicking around here, it has gotten way out of hand. Who let it get this way????  All you designers need to stop making so many good patterns just for a couple months :)

And hopefully Little Man will forget just for a little bit that he wants me to make him This.

There is some really good unrelated news .  I had another visit to the retinal specialist today and my eye looks great, fluid was all dried up.  Yippee.

Must Go Knit…

How the time goes by…I never meant to be gone so long but we have been plagued by a succession of colds, Aidan and I not hubby…he never gets sick.

Last time I posted about Little Man’s Valentine’s gift but that wasn’t the only gift i knit up.  My mom had a special request and I obliged.

Pattern: Ferdinand the Raven (pattern on Etsy)

Made for: Babsi

Dates: Feb 15-16, 2009

Yarn: Vanna’s Choice Baby in Aqua and Duckie

Needles: US 4 douple points and crochet hook i think 3.00 mm

Notes: Quick and fun pattern. Easy to follow and the little crochet bits added a nice change.  He is supposed to have a little tuft of hair on the top of his head. I forgot to put it on and didn’t realize until I already gave it to my mom!! Next time I go over there I will add the tuft. I think he looks just as cute without :)

On February 21 hubby celebrated his birthday and Little Man and I always bake him a cake. Little Man really gets into birthdays even if it’s not his and this year was no different.  He had some trouble figuring out what to give Daddy so we went over some of his favorite things: Tools, Tv, Computer and Making Knives.  As soon and he said “Knives” something in his brain clicked and he said “That’s it! I will get Daddy and knife and we will make him a knife cake.”  And that is exactly what we did.

To me it looks more like a pirate sword than a knife. Cutting a cake freehand is not my forte At All but hubby knew right away what it was and that was all that mattered and he loved it.  I was so proud of Little Man coming up with that idea and we had a good time making it.

Last Summer i started making a blanket based on this pattern.  Remember this?

Those were from my blanket, still unfinished but that is my goal for this week-i really am so close.  Anyway Little Man wanted a blanket like mine as well so we went and picked out some fabric in the Fall and i washed it right away.  A few weeks later I cut the squares and the sat in a pile, in my closet for monthes.  Last Sunday it suddenly hit me that though it is freezing outside it hopefully won’t be that way for much longer so i better get that blanket done.  I finished all the sewing by Monday.  I did not want to quilt it, I don’t have the patience for it, so i decided to Tye the quilt. I spent almost all day hunched over it with a few breaks it’s finished.

Bad Close-up of the tyes:

I am very happy with the end result and have decided to use the same technique on my blanket which means i should have mine soon as well!

I love the fabric Little Man picked and they are a good reflection of the things he likes.

We already snuggled and read bedtime stories under it :)
