September 2008

Oh Ravelry has made me lazy-all of you must cancel you accounts right away :) Okay just joking i would never ask you to give that up.  Or maybe i just need to admit i am lazy and it’s no ones fault but mine.

But as most of you probably already know-i have another FO.

THE BRAINMONSTER HAT!!! AAARRRRGHHHHHH!

Okay so last time we left off i said i was making the Koolhaas hat–Umm yeah i totally did not feel like doing something so involved so then i remembered this hat and realized this would be much more fun. Little Man had no idea what type of hat i planned on making him but requested that it have ears, he thought his friends at school would like that.

Pattern: BrainMonster from Cyn

Made for: Little Man

Dates:Sept. 22-24, 2008

Needles: Size 7 Circular and Dps

Yarn: Malabrigo Worsted in Oceanos oh and the teeth are Bernat Satin that i had in my stash

Notes: This hat fits him perfectly i was actually worrying it might be too small but i got lucky. My Sister-in-law has requested one so i will have to do make some changes. i will say that we tend to have ummm larger heads, i have noticed “average size woman hats” are too small for me and Little Man has also inherited the big head :)

i added ears per request. Just picked a number to cast on and made it up as i went.  Also instead of the plastic moving eyes i saved some cash by just making them with felt that i had on hand. Other than that i followed the pattern.

Little Man loved it and even though it was over 70 degrees the following days after i gave it to him he still wore it so he could show it off to everyone and everyone loved it.

Nothing else is really new around here. Last week Little Man got his second cold of the season. Friday i got my first.  He is still coughing and i am still snotty but feeling better.  i really did nothing over the weekend so that meant today i had to kick it in high gear and clean and mop the kitchen.  Sweep and vacuum the living room. Clean the craft/spare bedroom and vacuum Little Man’s room after he cleaned it.  Trust me this isn’t something i do just for fun or because i was feeling guilty over a lazy weekend. So Why???? Because tomorrow OMI IS FLYING IN FROM GERMANY!!!!! We are all excited.  Tomorrow morning i still need to clean the bathroom (hey we all have our limits of house work in a day)  and then put fresh sheets on her bed. Other than that i think everything is done.   Yay!!    Whew now i just want to Zzzzzzzzz.

Who knew and Alligator could so cute and cozy.

Pattern: Baby Alligator Scarf, a Morehouse Merino Original

Made for: Little Man

Dates: Aug. 29, 2008-Sept. 17, 2008

Yarn: Cascade 220 Color # 9485

Needles: Size 5 (3.75mm)

Notes: This scarf turned out fantastic. I love it!!! But there was one glitch and as i look back i think it may be my fault. But for the body you do 12 repeats and that comes to about 180 rows. Well i had to do 300 rows of the main body. When i got to the end of thr repeats i could tell there was no way that would be long enough it was like right in the middle.  Why my fault?  Well when i checked guage i was at my mom’s house without a measuring device so i knit a small swatch and asked my mom if she thought that looked like it was 2 inches (guage was 5 sts to the inch) and she said yeah that looks right.  So that’s what i went by.  The pattern states the length to be about 36 inches long mine was 46 inches long. I think that is the perfect length for my little guy. I think 36 inches would have been to short i want to be able to wrap the scarf around him and make him extra warm. And for me it hangs in just the right spot.

Other than that it is a great pattern, well written and actually went quite quick when i actually did work on it. When i realized how much more i had to knit i dedicated one full evening to it and was able to finish it that night.

Other than that i have been sewing, sewing and more sewing so Knitting has been a bit slow. But since i am getting my little man ready for the cooler weather i did start his winter hat today, Koolhaas by Jared Flood. Also in some blue yarn but not the matching Cascade. Over here we think matching is silly :) We are using Malabrigo Oceanos, It is Dk. and Lt. Blue. I am really enjoying this knitting to keep my boy warm :)

Today is mainly a day of relaxation. Just enjoying being at home. Hubby is in the Living Room reading, Little Man is playing with some rocks and i have been doing some sewing, laundry and Internet browsing.  We are also all relaxing because the weather is very dreary and rainy, the perfect home day :) And Little Man has caught his first cold of the season and we haven’t even started school yet. Not a good sign, i really want to make an effort to try and stay as healthy as possible this Fall & Winter.

Our Week was nice and busy and went by very quickly.  On Wednesday i started cutting some fabric:

It has been assembled but i can’t show you everything at once that’s no fun ;)

Thursday hubby went to pick up his tux for the wedding on Friday and brought me home a surprise on the way back.  He is very wonderful and talk about earning some brownie points for himself :)

I LOVE IT!!!!!  I have always wanted a ball-winder and swift but just didn’t think it was worth getting. I was so wrong!!!  It is so much fun winding yarn and Little Man can even do it so if for some reason i didn’t want to do it. I could set it up and put him to work :) Hee Hee

Here are my first “Yarn Cakes”

And on Friday Little Man woke up sick so we just relaxed and hung out and got ready for the wedding.

It turned out really nice, Here is the Happy Couple sharing their first kiss as Husband and Wife!!

Congrats Dan & Jess!!!!

Almost no knitting has been done the past few days but i hope to do some tonight.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend.

Okay we didn’t quite achieve the brightness that we were hoping for but they are delicious. Little Man and I had a great time making and decorating them.
i really like the Mint Green ones. the color came out very nice. The Military colored ones came of Little Man wanting Blue, me wanting Purple and then we just dumped colors in and ended up with this. We didn’t have Jelly Beans because i am not a huge fan of them so we topped ours with M&M’s from the candy store. The tartness of the frosting offset by the not so sweet cake and the hint of chocolate in your mouth all come together quite nicely and i do see more of these in our future.

Today we had our Home Visit from Little Man’s school. His teachers seem wonderful and i have a feeling we will have a very good year. he starts next Monday. Eeeee can you believe it?? Back in May when we registered they said end of September so i was thinking we had a couple more weeks. So today we took my car to the shop to fix a rattle in the exhaust, i need to get that done because once he is in school i need the car there won’t be a god time to take it into the shop. I should get that back tomorrow and Wednesday we will get Little Man’s hair cut. Thursday they are having an Ice Cream Social at his school and you hand in some paperwork, see the classroom and meet fellow students. That is going on in the middle of a friends dinner so we have to sneak out for a hour for the Social and then go back. Friday is hubby’s best friends wedding so he will be busy with that and Little Man is spending the night at Grandma’s house. With all that going on the week will go by so fast. i just can’t believe it. i am actually looking forward to just being stuck at home tomorrow with the Little Man :) A peaceful day before all the craziness and school starts.

I am looking forward to some knitting tonight and not thinking about anything except what my chart tells me to do :)

Little Man flying his kite, originally uploaded by Craftydiddl.

Last weekend Little Man flew his kite for the first time, he had good time. I am looking forward to another windy day so we can do it again.

Things are still moving along over here but nothing to show. Just imagine everything with some more rows. That’s one of tha bad thing about having so many projects going, You work a little on them all and progress is slow.
I have to say of all of them Little Man’s Alligator scarf is my favorite. It’s turning out super cute. I love the bumps on the back and the pattern is well written. But i do think i may have to make the bosy a little longer i am halfway through and it doesn’t seem like it will be long enough.
Hubby has been off on a golf trip since Thursday and will be coming back tomorrow. Little Man and I have just been hangin out, goign to stores, we got some Thai food yesterday and went to the candy store and got some treats. Both were delish. I love thai food, well really i should say i love one dish Pad Thai and only because that’s all i have ever gotten when i went, i am sure the other stuff is good too. Little Man got Bangkok Chicken which was rice and chicken cut up small and lightly breaded and then a sweet and sour sauce on it. That was really good as well.
Today i finally folded and put away my laundry and cleaned up the kitchen. Then we made Fairy Cakes from a new book i got this week, The Gentle Art of Domesticity by Jane Brocket. The book is Beautiful!!! There are some recipes in it and just her thoughts of things around us and how she applies it to her many crafts and life. I haven’t read the whole book yet so this is just a small overview. but most importantly are the pictures. They are gorgeous and full of color and inspiration. Just my kind of bright happy colors. I have already been inspired for a friendship bracelet and her quilts make me want to make quilts just and bright and beautiful. She does have lots of links  and info in the back of the book and while i would have enjoyed the patterns for some of the beautiful stuff in there i don’t miss it as much as i thought i would. She does list where the patterns are from at the end of the book or whether it is one of hers so that helps for the ones that are not hers.  I don’t think i will ever be able to stop looking at the pictures, art and crafty, domestic goodness in this book. It’s totally worth checking out and you can stop over at her blog as well.

Anyway our fairy cakes are cooling and then some frosting will go on them and maybe a couple M&M’s from the candy store. I will definitely share the outcome with you.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.
