May 2008

So i finished a couple small projects this week but was to lazy to post about them :) Well okay not lazy i just chose to do different things. So i decided to share them with you over the weekend.
First Up-another Market Bag. i really liked the first one i made and had bookmarked other patterns, cause a girl can’t have the same bag :) A couple weeks ago i got some cotton yarn at my LYS just because i loved the colors and couldn’t say no. After putting the yarn up on Ravelry i checked to see what other people had made with the yarn. I always do this, it’s really interesting and gives you great ideas if you are one of those people that buys yarn with no plan. I saw the market bag and knew it would be just right.

Pattern: Fantasy Naturale Market Bag by Joanne Turcotte

Made for: Me
Needles: Size 10.5 and 15 Denise needles
Yarn: Plymouth Fantasy Naturale Solid in 8017 & 6092
My thoughts: I enjoyed the pattern. it’s very easy to memorize and a quick knit.. I noticed other ravelers made their handles thicker as well and when i got to mine i realized the extra rows were needed so i knit until i ran out of yarn-maybe 6 extra rows. It stretches out a lot. the fabric has a nice sturdy thickness and soft :) Love it!

Tomorrow some hearts and cake :)

A new friend joined the family this weekend. He is Dill the Bear from Clare Garland’s new book Knitted Bears. Ours has yet to be named, Little Man wanted to name him after himself but then decided that would be silly. So the bear is sitting on my bed nameless and waiting for clothes. Knitted Bears has some really cute patterns for outfits so i am looking forward to making them especially the ones for the girl bears-which i plan on making for myself in the near future.

Details–
Pattern: Dill the Bear from Knitted Bears
Made for: Little Man-he wanted him so bad so i made a bear for him first but really i should have stuck with my instinct that the bear would only be cool for a couple mins. he will be cool for another couple mins after he has clothes :) but that’s always how it is with kids.
Dates: May 18-24, 2008
Yarn: Bernat Softee Baby in pale blue and Lion Brand Baby Soft in Cream
Needles: Straight size 5
Thoughts: Oh Boy!!! I had a few problems with this that really didn’t start to show. The stripes were a pain, when i carried the color up even though i tried really hard to be loose-i wasn’t loose enough and when i went to do my seaming i noticed some curving on one side. Which equals curving as i was matching the stripes :(
There is a lot of seaming-i think with the next bear i want to try and do some of it in the round if i can-and in one color!!!!
My arms were fixable because i could manipulate them more but on the legs only the feet get stuffed so thy have cute dangly legs and you can really notice the curving.
In the book she does her seaming with the right sides together and then you turn them around. i didn’t do that because it was to hard to match the stripes so i mattress stitched everything and i don’t thik that helped my curving either-i tend to pull my mattress stitch a bit tight-Basically everything was working against me on this one-i kept doing silly things that i should know better by now. When i was first done i really didn’t like him but he since he has been sleeping in my bed since Saturday he has grown on me.
i did make one other change-in the book she sews a bead onto the felt eyes and i used a safety eye instead, it saved me from having to sew the felt on.
I look forward to more bears :)

How was everyone’s Memorial Day? I did some knitting in the morning and then cleaning in the afternoon. Right now i have a Apple Pie in the oven-I have never made one before so hopefully it turns out. I am using Apple Pie 1 recipe from th Joy of Cooking book.

Last Friday was Rhino’s (Little Man best stuffed pal) birthday. He sprung on me suddenly so i had to get party stuff ready by the afternoon. it turned out really great though-we had ice Cream sandwiches that we made and we made hats and decorations for Rhino it turned out really cute :) Here’s a shot before Rhino blew out his candle…

Time to take my pie out of the oven.
ETA: Looks Yummy

Yay! I missed a package on Saturday and so yesterday me and Little Man ventured out to the Post Office in our Pj’s.

Goodies from Joanna, originally uploaded by Craftydiddl.

Surprise! i got a package from Joanna!!! i got some great fabric and already have some ideas! Floss for Friendship Bracelets and some heart beads, cute little bird patches and rhinestone beads. Thank you so much! i can’t wait to create with everything :)

Today was a really nice day. I started cleaning out my closet in the guest/craft room, weeded, had a picnic in the backyard with Little Man. We raced around the yard-Whew he wears me out. Got my 2 bad tires replaced-:( that was more than expected. One of my tires is worth 2 of my husband’s and his tires are bigger!!! Oh well.
And i did some baking-Foccacia Bread. The recipe is from Apples for Jam, a really beautiful cookbook. I like the recipes but i have to admit i got it mostly for the pictures. It’s called Olive Oil Foccacia and has a lot of rising breaks so if you want it ready for dinner then you have to start it at lunch. I sprinkled Rosemary on the top of mine along with the salt, water and oil mixture that the recipe has. I was a little concerned at first because the book said my dough would be really sticky and it wasn’t it came together very nicely and also it didn’t seem to be rising as much as i thought it would. i have to tell you that i got a little impatient during the second rising and maybe could have let it sit longer and the boys were hungry. But it came out great! maybe not as puffy but hubby loved it!!! He said it was the best bread i had made so far YAY!!!! Little Man enjoyed it as well but he loves bread any bread so that wasn’t such a surprise.

We still have plenty leftover so tomorrow morning Little Man and I are going to walk to the grocery store and get some lunch meats and cheese and make some sandwiches with what is left….maybe another picnic in the backyard :)

AND yesterday i made more popsicles so when Little Man asked for one a few minutes ago i made sure i snapped a pic for you guys since i kept forgetting last time. These ones are a little different because the only berry i had was Strawberry so for the extra fruit i added some banana. Yummy :)

Last night the computer ate up most of my knitting time-so hopefully i will get more accomplished tonight.

Last but definitly not least–Thanks for the love on my bag :)

 It’s all done!! Whew!
This was a lot of sewing but i am really happy with how it turned out.

Owl side, originally uploaded by Craftydiddl.

This is the Pleated Beauty Bag from Bend the Rules Sewing by Amy Karol. It’s a nice size tote and will be good for a knitting project or just as a big bag because i carry around a lot of stuff :)

My favorite part is Little Man’s owl i am so glad that i had him draw a picture for me. I like my sheep as well but there is just that extra sweeteness to the Owl side :)

The bag itself was easy to put together there was just a lot of pieces that had to be sewn together. i could see myself making another one of these but not anytime soon.

Knitting-wise i have no finished projects-i never even touched my June-Bug like i said i wanted to.
Instead i cast on for two new projects!! Drive-Thru by Wendy Bernard-i am making a cardigan version for Little Man and a Knitted Teddy Bear. I got a new book on saturday called Knitted Bears- it’s by Clare Garland, the same author of Knitted Babes and Dream Toys. The bears are super cute and come with super cute outfits. As soon as i finish making Little Man’s i am making one for myself :) Little Man said he “wants all the bears” so i have a feeling we will have a family of bears and i still want to make more knitted babes i just have been so busy starting new things that come along that i haven’t gone back to do any repeat projects. I need an extra set of arms.

Tomorrow i have some package goodies to show :)

We are feeling so much better today! We were even finally able to go grocery shopping-we haven’t had milk since Monday morning and that bad since both the men in the house have to have cereal for breakfast :) But it was a good way to remind Aidan that there are other things besides cereal and a good way to remind myself that having to spend a few extra minutes making breakfast isn’t so bad. I am not a morning person at all and will freely admit that i like the convenience of cereal. :)

Since i got my new sewing machine i decided i wanted to tackle a bag that was slightly trickier and a little more work than i felt up to before. It’s called Pleated Beauty Bag and it is in the Bend The Rules Sewing book by Amy Karol that i have made a few other things from. My biggest issue was having to cut all the pieces-there is no pattern just measurements. Shouldn’t be to hard right but for whatever reason i measure fine, Cut it and it’s all wonky-so i spent all of Saturday night CAREFULLY measuring and cutting my pieces. Everything look okay-not perfect but good enough.
The two middle panels of the bag can be embroidered and i knew i wanted a sheep on mine so i decided on a cute sheep that was in Little Man’s book “Where is the Green Sheep?” and i am very happy with how it came out. Better Shot here. The other side of the bag i planned on leaving blank, like a wrong side to the bag but after going back and forth i decided i wanted something there. After thinking for a long time i suddenly thought of something i had seen here recently and knew that was what i wanted to do. I also saw it somewhere else before Christmas but for whatever reason i wasn’t as struck by it. ANYWAY i originally wanted an owl for the back of the bag and wasn’t happy with what i had drawn and what i was finding as far as Clipart on online. Well one of my drawing were laying on the floor and Little Man took it to copy the owl, he is always copying things i write and have laying around, after a couple minutes he brought me his copy and i loved it. For the past few days that has been his new favorite thing to draw and even more special for my bag because it would be an owl drawn by him!! better shot here.

In the morning we are registering Little Man for 4 yr old Preschool and then in the afternoon i am hoping to start sewing my bag together. There is a lot of assembly so i think it will take a couple days but i am looking forward to the finished product.

Tonight i am hoping to finish some knitting on my June Bug from Unusual Knitted Toys but we will see i may change my mind in the next couple hours :)

First of All i want to Thank all you wonderful blog friends for your sweet birthday wishes! you guys are the best!

Apologies for the unexpected delay, but the weekend brought one last cold for me and Little Man. I knew as soon as he showed signs i wouldn’t be far behind and i was right. Little Man was sick on the weekend and sunday night my symptoms started. Today was my first day of enough energy to focus.
But as promised my birthday present from hubby:

A fancy new sewing machine-it does all kinds of sewing tricks! One of the bigger things is embroidery. I was able to learn a few things on Saturday. I have to get embroidery thread and fabric stabilizer before i can embroider but i hope to do that tomorrow. i love it and have already started cutting fabric for some sewing.

Knitting has not been so productive.
I have one sock done from my Burnin’ Rings of Fire that i took to Puerto Rico with me. I finished my second square for my Barn Raising Quilt, Look at me go!! hahaha
But i did finish this monkey last week.

It was a kit for kids that i found at Target. It was 75% off so i figured “Why not” it was easy to make and it turned out pretty cute.

Well i am off to rest some more!

Happy Birthday to Me!, originally uploaded by Craftydiddl.

I am 26 today! :) So far so good.  I will show you what hubby got me tomorrow.

Nothing Special today-we are doing lunch tomorrow but we did do my Chocolate Chip Cheesecake with cherries on top :) YUMMY!!!  One of my favorite to make but it is pretty rich so i save it for special occasions.

I did do some planting today though-wish me luck it works out i have the opposite of a green thumb-i think they call it a black thumb. But Aidan and I planted some “Yellow Pear” Tomatoes, Sugar Snack Cherry Tomatoes, Sweet Green Pepper, Hot Red Cherry Peppers, Basil, Wee B-Little Pumpkin and Strawberries.  Oh and a White Pine Sapling that we got for free at the Museum but that is in a pot.  Hope they all make it!!!

These were mixed together

 and frozen in this

To make popsicles that i keep forgetting to take pictures of.

Golden Delicious Apples in a pot

Cooked with some water and cinnamon

Applesauce!!

Quick and Yummy homemade treats. The popsicles i made last year but this was my first time making Applesauce and i love it!!!

I hope you all are doing well, i have been very lazy with my posting but i do have FO’s to show-Sewing and Knitting!! So that is my goal for the next couple days!
