February 2008

Sorry about the delay but i am still coughing like crazy and i just felt like curling up in bed last night.

Happy Wallet, originally uploaded by Craftydiddl.

My last sewing projct to show off until i can take pictures of the others (they are at my mom’s house-it could be awhile lol) is the No Cash Wallet also in the Bend the Rules Sewing book.

I love this little thing. The fabric is so happy and bright and it just make me smile.
This is a quick sew and so far my favorite. i had no problems with this one-YAY!! The only thing that is not like the pattern is that i did not sew around the wallet after i had turned it right side out like you are supposed to, if i had my cars would not have fit-this way they are perfect and if i may say so-my wallet does not even need the seam all the way around :) i am not being ocky-just very happy it worked out so well. So what happened? Well even though i always check eratta for knitting books it totally slipped my mind to do that as well for this book. So of course there was a mistake in the pattern that i did not know about-it really needs to be a about a half inch wider around.
Will be making more of these!!
There has been no knitting since i have been sick-and i still just don’t feel like doing any–i have blahs.
But on a bright note-i got some mail yesterday!!!

What a beautiful letter-Than you so much Joanna-you will get a response soon.
We are going on a little road trip this weekend-so Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!

Whew! I am feeling so much better!!! This was a bad one. I spent most of this morning catching up on everything that didn’t get done while i was sick-dishes, laundry folding, picking up the basement after hubby has been hangin out down there. Little Man was wonderful while i was sick-he cleaned up all his toys after he was done playing with them and also he had lots of TV time-we will be making up for that this week-almost none will be watched.
So a couple posts ago i vented about my horrible sewing machine that was making me really start to dislike machine sewing. This was the project that did my machine in.

Little Man’s Doorway Puppet Theater from Amy Karol’s book Bend the Rules Sewing.
Little Man gets a kick out of it just hanging in his doorway because it’s like a window and when i walk by i stick my head in and say Hello. He has also used it as a theater with the dragons i knitted up for him but he prefers to watch others (me) do the puppeteering.
I got all the fabric at my local Joann Fabric store and that’s my favorite part. Little Man really likes dinosaurs so i was really excited when i found something with dinos on it. In the baby section where i almost never looked, then i found some striped fabric that had all the exact colors of the dinosaur fabric-the orange was easy to find :) . And it only took me 45 mins to find. Origianally the fabric i had picked out had stars and was more red, white and blue themed but that really doesn’t match with Little Man’s room.
Overall the project is very easy and like it says in her book there is A LOT of straight sewing-that’s all you do and it can be kind of a pain sewing the smaller pieces to the huge backdrop (striped fabric). On the back she has you sew some twill tape on to later run wooden dowels through and that was my biggest pain-the twill kept shifting and moving. I did manage to get a dowel in the twill under the “window” where it really needed one-you can see in the picture how its sagging forward, i obviously didnt have dowels yet when i took the pic :) But no dowel on top-my sewing was too crazy and got too narrow to get the 1/2 inch dowel through. I am still deciding whether i will get a smaller dowel to run through the top. I also made the pouch that goes with it and that was super easy to make-but instead of using a button and trying to make a button hole i chose to use snap buttons. The theater fits in it with a little bit of room to spare.
I love how it turned out and Little Man seems to enjoy it as well!

My grandma sent me package and i got it today but-it got damaged and they repackaged it in a new box…but with only 2 of the 8 things that she actually sent me-so i am going to try and file a missing items report and see if maybe i can track any of it and get it back. I know that the chances are slim but i am willing to try anyway-you never know, Right? :)

Tomorrow-a small sewing project and a peek at what hubby is getting for his birthday on Thursday from me and Little Man :) Have a great night and if it’s super cold by you as well Stay Warm!!!!!

Ugh-have been sick all weekend and today i am still in bed but i took this on Saturday and i had to share it with you guys.

Thirsty Kitty, originally uploaded by Craftydiddl.

My kitty Max is so against drinking out of his water bowl. He wants fresh water from the sink, the tub and more recently i caught him drinking water out of the toilet when Little Man had left his seat on, good thing little man flushes. I shooed him away and made a point to keep up with taking off the potty seat. On Saturday Little Man was in the tub and he yelled “Mommy, Max is in the potty” hahaha So i decided to catch it on camera. So here you go-that’s what i have for you tonight.
Tomorrow i should be well enough to post about the first of a couple sewing projects i finished last week. :)

posting this cause picture in last post looks funny :(

Juliet progress, originally uploaded by Craftydiddl.

And right now i am totally hating my sewing machines, yes that’sright-plural-both my machines are acting up. One is cheap and the other one is ancient. My ancient one was doing doing great-we were a team-nobody could stop us-until today. Today it decided it didnt want to anymore-i had to pull my cheap also messed up machine fromt he basement. UGH!!! After messing around for about 15 mins i got it to sew ok. so why do i love knitting;
1-i can sit back and relax and just knit away in total comfort-not hunched over some stupid machine
2-mistakes are easy to fix-unlike stupid sewing machines that just give up sewing correctly for no reason

There are more reasons but i think you get my point-I am mad at my sewing machines.

Big Footed Bunny, originally uploaded by Craftydiddl.

So we have a new friend in the family-Lily the bunny-she is a pattern from Wee Wonderfuls. I got her pattern booklet before easter last year. Cut out all her parts and then they lay and lay and lay and lay and lay there until ths week. Poor thing. I will have you know she was hand-sewn-so machine anger is associated with her. I love how she turned out. Way cuter than i thought she would. i wasn’t worried because of the pattern but because my sewing isn’t all that great.

Next Up Joanna asked to see a shot of Juliet.

I am not sure how i feel about it-which kinda bums me out becuase i really want this to look good. I had everything planned out for it and high hopes-perhaps too high. But i will still keep knitting on it-maybe the look wll improve when its all done and has buttons.
Joanna-I did look at Joy and it looks like a great pattern-i especially like the collar on it. I think between the two that Joy would be more your style.

Well i am off to make a small dinner-we had a late & big lunch today.
Maybe after i have calmed down i wll look at my sewing machines again-i am making something for Little Man and i really want to get it done. Tonight Juliet will be getting most of the attention though.
Hope you all are having a good weekend.

Super Rhino, originally uploaded by Craftydiddl.

Slow Going over here…
A Cape-that’s all i have for you LOL.
My little guy is big on superheros, few boys aren’t. So i decided to surprise him with a cape for his favorite friend. So a little snip here and some sewing there and about 5 mins later we had a cape. The clean up to get to my machine and make room on my work table took longer than the cape. But the joy that it brings to Little Man and Rhino-sorry Super Rhino are totally worth it. And i have more sewing planned.
I spent yesterday and today working on Valentines. i signed up for a valentines exchange on Ravelry and they have to be sent out tomorrow-i got them out today-yay i am usually so last minute.
Juliet is also coming along. I am done with the garter stitch and ready to start the lace. I started the set up row and some how ended up with 30 sts less then i needed-WOAH so tinked back the row and will have to try again but at least i caught it it right away. Now i just have to figure out what in the world i did wrong.
Next time-a bunny :)
